NUMBER: 13-2-1 APPROVED DATE: 02-12-1998

BASED ON POLICY NUMBER AND TITLE: 13-2-0 USE OF RESOURCES

PURPOSE: To establish a process for retrieving delinquent Trident Technical College Library materials, including, but not limited to, books, reserve and reference materials, and audiovisual or electronic software and equipment.
  1. OVERDUE NOTICES.
The Library staff sends overdue notices via email.  The first notice is a courtesy notice and is sent three days before the item is due.  The second notice is sent one week after the due date. The third notice is sent three weeks after the due date and informs the patron that a hold will be placed on his student record if overdue items are not returned in one week.  The final notice is sent four weeks after the due date and informs the patron that all overdue items are now assumed lost and a library hold will be placed on his records.
  2. FINES.
There is a fine for items not returned within the identified circulation period. Fines may vary in amount depending on the item. The daily rate applies only to those days that the Library is open to serve the public. No fine will exceed the original cost of the item.  A student who borrows materials through PASCAL (i.e. items owned by another institution) will be assessed a replacement cost of $100.00 per item for all unreturned items.
  3. LOST OR DAMAGED MATERIALS OR EQUIPMENT.
The TTC Libraries must be reimbursed for lost or damaged materials or equipment. If an item is lost, the student must pay the replacement cost of the item and a $5.00 processing fee. If the item is later found by the student after payment has been made, only the money for the cost of the item is returned to the student. If an item is damaged beyond repair, the student must pay the replacement cost of the item plus a processing fee.
  4. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS AND PENALTIES.
Students who have outstanding library fines and fees of $5.00 or more will have a library hold placed on their student records.  These students will not be able to register for classes, receive official transcripts, or graduate until all library obligations are resolved and the hold is cleared.
  5. FACULTY/STAFF OBLIGATIONS.
Faculty and staff receive notices for overdue Library materials. They are exempt from fines for items which are returned, but must pay for lost library materials.
