PURPOSE:  To provide a procedure for having Animals on Trident Technical College’s Campuses and Sites.

Animals are not allowed on the premises or property of TTC except for service animals, police dogs or police horses, animals used for educational purposes in academic and continuing education programs, and animals associated with TTC Foundation sponsored events.  The feeding of animals (feral, domestic, or wildlife) on campus is prohibited with the exception of those animals treated by the Veterinary Technology Program, animals associated with TTC Foundation sponsored events, or service animals.

A service animal is defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as “dogs that have been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities,” including physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other disabilities. The work or tasks performed by a service animal must be directly related to the individual’s disability. The revised ADA regulations also provide for the use of miniature horses as service animals, where reasonable, provided a miniature horse meets the assessment factors provided for under the ADA. Other species of animals, whether wild or domestic, trained or untrained, are not considered service animals.  Dogs used for emotional support, therapy, comfort, companions, and dogs-in-training are not considered qualified service dogs (https://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm). Any questions concerning service animals should be directed to the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) Office located within Counseling and Career Development (https://www.tridenttech.edu/student/help/st_disab.htm ), Bldg. 410, Ste. 210, 843-574-6131.
