What can I do in accounting?

Accounting is the foundation of every organization, and management looks to the accountant to find where the money comes from and where it goes. Professional accountants process and communicate financial information about their organization's economic activities and convey this information to a variety of groups, including investors, creditors, management and regulators.

What characteristics and skills do I need to work in this field?

Successful candidates for an accounting degree must be detail-oriented and have good analytical skills, as they must be able to identify issues in documentation and suggest solutions. They must have good communication skills to listen to their clients and managers and be able to discuss the results of their work in both meetings and written reports. Accountants also must be able to analyze, compare and interpret facts and figures, although complex math skills are not necessary. Professional accountants are extremely ethical, have high integrity, are detail-oriented, and are analytical and organized.

Where can I work?

Most bookkeepers and accountants work full time in an office setting, with longer hours being typical at certain times such as the end of the budget year or during tax season. Staff accountants are known to work at small to large businesses and/or accounting firms.

What does Trident Technical College offer?
