Trident Technical College (TTC) and local employers who participate in the college’s adult apprenticeship programs as an Employer Partner, can hire TTC students or place internal employees and grow their future workforce.

Why should your company host an Adult Apprentice?

With the Baby Boomer population on the verge of retiring, apprenticeships offer companies the opportunity to provide a roadmap to individuals seeking direction, mentoring and the opportunity to be paid to learn a skill that allows them to earn a living and assist companies in filling critically needed occupations.

Companies receive the following benefits when starting an apprenticeship program with TTC:

  • Access to aspiring apprentices
  • Recruit and screen potential employees
  • Workers compensation coverage of apprentice provided by TTC
  • $1,000 tax credits for each apprentice for up to four years

What is your role and responsibilities when hosting an Adult Apprentice?

Apprenticeship is a combination of paid on-the-job training and job-related-instruction in which workers learn the practical and theoretical aspects of a highly skilled occupation. You can start an apprenticeship program at your company in partnership with TTC in four simple steps.

Adult Apprenticeship Development Process

Step 1 Sign up your company as an Employer Partner
Sign an agreement that specifies the mutual responsibilities of TTC and the employer.

Step 2 Select your apprentices
TTC will ask you to determine who and how many people you would like to enroll in the apprenticeship program.

Step 3 Identify your mentors
Identify mentors for each skill area who are:

  • Considered an expert
  • Interested in sharing their knowledge and skills
  • Eager to help an apprentice grow and learn
  • Willing to evaluate the apprentice’s skill level

Step 4 Implement your On-the-Job Training (OJT) System
A critical component of TTC’s program is to rotate the apprentice throughout your worksite on all processes associated with the trade, enabling him/her to learn all of the required skills.
