From a young age, I’ve felt an undeniable pull toward the world of culinary arts. Joining the Pastry/Culinary program at Trident Technical College was a step towards transforming that passion into something more—a fulfilling career. What I didn’t realize at the time was just how much this experience would strengthen my self-confidence, deepen my skills, and set me on a path toward my dream of teaching others to "cook for the soul." My time at Trident Technical College has been a journey of personal and professional growth, bringing me closer to a vision of success where I can share the love of cooking with others.

Before I began at Trident Technical College, I had a dream of sharing my love for cooking, but self-doubt often crept in. Could I turn my passion into a career? Did I have what it took to inspire others? From my first days in the kitchen at Trident Technical College, though, I found myself surrounded by chefs who encouraged my dreams. These mentors didn’t just teach me cooking techniques; they modeled the professionalism and passion that I wanted to emulate. Watching them handle every situation with grace, adapting to students’ needs, and motivating each of us individually has shown me that I, too, can make a difference in the kitchen.

One of the biggest challenges I faced was learning to connect with my classmates. I’ve always been somewhat reserved, finding it hard to open up to others. In the fast-paced environment of a professional kitchen, though, teamwork is essential. My instructors noticed my struggles and encouraged me to engage more with my peers. They arranged group projects and paired me with classmates who, over time, became close friends. This experience not only taught me the importance of communication but also showed me that I could rely on others for support. It’s something I’ll carry forward into my future as an instructor—knowing that encouragement and teamwork can help others flourish.

To me, success means being able to teach others not only how to cook but also how to find joy and purpose in the process. Thanks to my time at Trident Technical College, I now have a stronger foundation in both the technical aspects of cooking and the interpersonal skills needed to lead a kitchen. I’ve learned how to communicate effectively, adapt to challenges, and work as part of a team—all qualities I will need as an instructor. My dream is now within reach, thanks to the education and experiences I’ve gained at Trident Technical College, and I feel fully prepared to pursue it.

Looking back, my time at Trident Technical College has been a transformative experience. I’ve grown in confidence, learned to connect with others, and built the skills I need to succeed in the culinary world. What started as a simple dream—to find my place in the kitchen—has evolved into a clear vision of becoming an instructor who can inspire others to cook from the heart. I’m deeply grateful for the encouragement and support I’ve received, and as I look forward to the future, I’m excited to continue building on everything Trident Technical College has taught me.
