PLEASE NOTE: All of the CARES Act funding available to students has been disbursed.

Q: Who qualifies for the CARES Act Funds?

A: To be eligible for CARES Act grant funding you must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Be enrolled at TTC on March 13, 2020 - the day President Trump declared a national emergency as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. This was the last day of class prior to the transition to online learning.
  2. Be eligible for Federal Title IV student aid, and meet all of the following requirements:
    1. Completed all requirements of your 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
    2. Earned a high school diploma or GED;
    3. Met Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
    4. And be enrolled in an eligible program of study, and taking at least one face-to-face class in full spring and/or spring 2 term of the 2020 spring semester.

Students who are not eligible for the CARES Act grant include those:

  1. who did not file a 2019-20 FAFSA,
  2. whose 2020 spring semester enrollment was for the following: Wintermester or Spring 1 classes exclusively;
  3. international, dual enrollment, transient, non-degree and undecided, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA); and
  4. students who were enrolled exclusively in online courses for full spring and /or spring 2 term on or before March 13, 2020.

Q: I did not file a 2019-20 FAFSA. Can I do that now?

A: Yes. The 2019-20 FAFSA is still available at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa

Q: How and when will I receive the disbursement?

A: Students who have already set up their refund preference with BankMobile will receive their emergency funds by direct deposit. If you have not set your preference, please follow instructions at refundselection.com to set up your bank account to receive your payment. The college will disburse funding to currently eligible students on May 8. Students who submit a FAFSA to qualify for CARES Act funding will receive their funds when the college is able to establish eligibility after federal FAFSA processing.

Q: How do I know how much I will be awarded?

A: Grant amounts for TTC students are based on the housing information provided on the 2019-20 FAFSA, and eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant. There are four grant categories.

  1. Pell Eligible – living with family
  2. Pell Eligible – living independently
  3. No Pell – living with family
  4. No Pell – living independently

Q: Can I change the housing information on my FAFSA?

A: Unfortunately, no. We have issued grants based on the information provided and do not have funds for adjustments.

Q: How can I use the disbursement?

A: According to the US Department of Education these funds can be used for expenses related to the cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care.

Q: Will my disbursement be reduced by any outstanding balances that I may owe to TTC?

A: No. If you meet the eligibility requirements, your disbursement amount will NOT be reduced by any outstanding balances that you owe to TTC.

Q: Is this a loan or advance that I will be required to repay in the future?

A: No, this is a grant. You will not be required to repay.
