NUMBER: 8-4-4 APPROVED DATE: 01-04-1999
BASED ON POLICY NUMBER AND TITLE: SBTCE POLICY 8-2-105 COMPENSATION FOR TEMPORARY (ADJUNCT) FACULTY
SBTCE Policy 8-2-105 Compensation for Temporary (Adjunct) Faculty
Purpose
To define Trident Technical College's (TTC) process for compensating adjunct faculty.
Compensation
Trident Technical College compensates adjunct faculty based on established criteria and the number of contact hours specified on the "Temporary Employment Agreement" form or Assignment Contract Electronic form. This agreement is signed/accepted by the employee and the budget administrator (Dean, Department Head, or Program Manager). No agreement is considered binding until all required approvals have been obtained.
Compensation Range
Employment agreements compensate adjunct faculty at a rate between $15 and $30 per contact hour.
Compensation Criteria and Determination
Within the established compensation ranges, the Dean/Department Head or Program Manager uses the following criteria to determine the rate of adjunct pay:
- Academic credentials
- Professional licensing or credentials
- Relevant professional experience
- Market availability
- Number, type, time and location of sections to be staffed
Compensation Approval
The compensation rate requires approval from the Dean. In some cases, it may be necessary to compensate at rates outside the range. Rates outside the range require approval from the Vice President of Academic Affairs or appropriate vice president.
