PURPOSE:  To outline the requirements for a student to add, change or close a major. 

A student desiring to update his/her major should complete a Change of Major Request form.

  1. EFFECTIVE DATE
    Changes requested by the last day to drop for a full term will take effect as of that semester. Changes initiated after the last day to drop for full term will take effect in the following semester. 
    • Exceptions
      • Students not enrolled in full term or term 1 are eligible to submit requests up until the end of the last day to drop for term 2 of the semester.
      • Wintermester is part of Spring Semester.  Students enrolled in Wintermester cannot change their major after the last day to drop for the Wintermester term.  Changes submitted after the last day to drop will take effect at the beginning of the subsequent Summer Semester.
      • Maymester is part of the Summer Semester.  Students enrolled in Maymester cannot change their major after the last day to drop of the Maymester term.  Changes submitted after the last day to drop will take effect at the beginning of the subsequent Fall Semester.
      • In the event that a student is enrolled during the first term or full term of a given semester and wishes to add a new major, the new major will be effective for the next term of that semester while previous programs will not be closed until the end of the current semester.
  1. MULTIPLE MAJORS
    Based on the effective date information stated in this procedure, students can add additional associate level, diploma level or certificate level majors. Students can be matriculated in up to six programs but no more than two associate level majors at a time.
  2. ELIGIBILITY
    The Registrar's office will review the change of major request along with pertinent information in the student's education record to determine eligibility for the desired program. If the student is not eligible based on the College's policies and procedures, the Registrar's office will notify the student through their college student email account. Students cannot pursue a major more than once. Students cannot be degree seeking and non-degree seeking in the same semester.  
  3. SPECIAL ADMISSION PROGRAMS
    Clinical Health Science and Nursing program admission have a special admission process and acceptance to those programs are managed by the Health Science and Nursing Admissions process.  Approval for the Paralegal certificate is managed by the Program Coordinator.
