BASED ON POLICY NUMBER AND TITLE: 16-1-0 ADMISSIONS
PURPOSE: To ensure the academic preparedness of applicants for admission to Trident Technical College.
Applicants must demonstrate academic eligibility through one of the following methods:
- New Students
- By providing evidence of high school completion from a South Carolina high school in the five years preceding admission with a weighted high school GPA of 3.0 or above.
- By providing adequate scores on one of the following examinations. Test score requirements
are subject to change and are available on the College website, and in the TTC Catalog.
- SAT
SAT Scores are valid for five years from the date of testing. - ACT
ACT scores are valid for five years from the date of testing. - College Board's ACCUPLACER Placement Test
Applicant must attain a minimum score of 33 on the Reading Comprehension component of ACCUPLACER for admittance to the College. ACCUPLACER scores on the Reading Comprehension component are valid for five years from the date of testing. TTC refers applicants with reading scores below the minimum requirement to the Adult Education or Literacy Program in the appropriate county. - ACT COMPASS Placement Test
Applicants must attain a minimum score of 42 on the Reading skills component of COMPASS for admittance to the College. COMPASS scores on the Reading component are valid for five years from the date of testing. TTC refers applicants with reading scores below the minimum requirement to the Adult Education or Literacy Program in the appropriate county.

- Transfer Students
Transfer students may demonstrate academic eligibility by providing evidence of transferrable college-level coursework from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution or by any of the methods in section 1 above. Transferrable English and Math courses may exempt the applicant from further placement testing. Once admitted, students should consult with their academic advisor or navigator. - Non-Degree Seeking Students
Non-degree students must provide evidence of minimum reading skills through one of the methods described in sections 1 or 2 above, or an approved transient/cross registration form/letter from another college. For admission purposes, unofficial documents are acceptable. Non-degree students are ineligible to receive federal financial aid, veterans' benefits or South Carolina lottery tuition assistance.
