2026 - 2027 Scholarship Essay Criteria & Topics

Boeing Company Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
- enrolled in the Aircraft Maintenance Technology associate degree, Aircraft Assembly Technology certificate, General Technology: Avionics Technology Career Path, Avionics Maintenance Technology certificate; Computer Programming, Network Systems Management or Information Systems associate degrees, Machine Tool Technology associate degree or Mechatronics certificate
Essay topic: Describe your educational and career goals and motivations as they relate to the aeronautical industry as well as any circumstances or challenges that you have had to overcome in pursuit of these goals.
Marion and Wayland H. Cato, Jr. Endowed Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
- enrolled in an associate degree program
- completed community service section in Part 2 of the Scholarship Application
Essay topic: Describe your current or past work experiences that demonstrate a strong work ethic AND community service experiences that demonstrate commitment to volunteerism.
Patricia Thomas Dupree Memorial Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater
- enrolled in an associate degree in accounting
- completed community service section in Part 2 of the Scholarship Application
Essay topic: Discuss one or more of your intellectual interests and related life goals.
Eicher Family Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
- enrolled in a Human Services or Criminal Justice associate degree program
Essay topic: Describe your educational and career goals and how this scholarship will help you achieve those goals.
Godow Family Scholarship
(funds may be used for childcare costs and other living expenses)
- cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater
- single parent with one or more minor children in the home
- the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Essay topic: Describe your educational and career goals, the challenges you have encountered in pursuit of these goals, and how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals.
R. L. Helmly Family Endowed Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
- Berkeley or Dorchester County resident
- completed community service section in Part 2 of the Scholarship Application
- enrolled in an associate degree program related to telecommunications, computer technology, manufacturing, business, engineering technology, nursing, health sciences or veterinary technology
Essay topic: Discuss your talents, affiliation, activities, and accomplishments that demonstrate leadership potential and good character.
Hospitality Education Endowed Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater
- enrolled in an associate degree program in the Division of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts
- completed community service section in Part 2 of the Scholarship Application
Essay topic: Discuss your professional aspirations in hospitality, tourism or culinary arts.
Coleman D. Knight, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
- enrolled in a Criminal Justice or Homeland Security Management associate degree program
Essay topic: Discuss your educational and career goals and how this scholarship will help you achieve those goals.
Brett A. Maynard Memorial Endowed Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
- enrolled in the Culinary Arts associate degree program
Essay topic: Describe your educational and career goals and motivations as they relate to the culinary arts, any circumstances or challenges overcome in pursuit of those goals, and how this scholarship will help you meet your goals.
Persevere Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
- single parent with one or more minor children in the home
- enrolled in any certificate, diploma or associate degree
Essay topic: Describe your educational and career goals and any challenges you have encountered in pursuit of those goals.
Smith Family Foundation Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
- enrolled in an associate degree in Nursing
Essay topic: Describe something you have done in the past year that has made a difference in your community OR describe how seniors in your community have impacted your outlook on aging and life.
Summerville Evening Rotary Club Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater
- graduate of Ashley Ridge, Ft. Dorchester or Summerville High School
Essay topic: Discuss the Rotary Four Way Test which states: "Of the Things We Think, Say or Do: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
Top Programmer Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
- enrolled in the associate degree in computer technology (computer programming career path) program
- completed either CPT 167 (previously CPT 232) OR CPT 187 (previously CPT 233) with an "A" grade
Essay topic: Describe your programming career goals and motivations.
West Ashley Optimist Club Scholarship
- cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
- the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- preference given to West Ashley residents
Essay topic: Explain why you believe that now is the time to further your education at this stage of your life.
