BASED ON POLICY NUMBER AND TITLE: SBTCE 8-0-102: PERSONAL BENEFIT FROM PROJECTS
Purpose: To establish guidelines by which instructors may accept course-related instructional projects and services from Trident Technical College faculty, staff, and students, and from the community. Instructional projects and services refers to work performed by students as part of an academic course assignment and does not include established campus enterprises such as restaurants and clinics that are open to the public. Instructional projects and services are subject to the following:
- Acceptance of instructional projects and services is at the discretion of the instructor, with approval of the division dean and the Vice President for Education.
- Instructional projects and services must relate directly to the competencies being taught in the associated course.
- Instructors should not accept or offer an instructional project or service if it is considered to be in direct competition with local businesses and to have an adverse impact on their operation.
- The Vice President for Education must approve instructional projects and services that involve students working off campus.
- A signed liability release statement tailored to fit the shop concerned must be on file for any personally owned property left in the custody of TTC employees for the purposes of instructional projects and services.
- The program may assess a shop fee as appropriate and in accordance with a departmental fee schedule. The individual requesting the work must pay for or furnish materials used in the project or services.
- Tangible goods produced by students during a course may be offered to the public or through bid procedure at a price which will allow the institution to recover costs.
- All financial transactions must be done by credit or debit card; no cash transactions are permitted.
