Academic Skills Development
Skills to Get on Track—and Stay There
Academic success is more than selecting appropriate courses; it requires effective skills in managing coursework, maintaining organization and consistently performing at a high level throughout the term.
At TTC, Guided Pathways is designed to help students get on a path, stay on a path and complete their goals. Academic Skills Development supports this by helping students build the skills they need to successfully move through each stage of their academic journey.
Academic Skills Development focuses on the foundational skills students need to progress through their pathway with confidence, including:
- Managing time and balancing coursework
- Developing effective study and test-taking strategies
- Staying organized, focused and motivated
- Understanding classroom expectations and academic responsibilities
These services are especially helpful for students who are:
- New to college
- Exploring majors or career pathways
- Enrolled in accelerated, short-term or online courses
- Experiencing academic difficulty or feeling off-track
Counselors work with students to identify barriers to success and develop clear, practical strategies that support progress toward academic and career goals. Support is tailored to each student’s pathway and current stage—whether that means building stronger academic habits, adjusting strategies or reconnecting with long-term goals.
Academic Skills Development is offered through individual appointments, workshops and self-help resources, and is designed to complement advising and instructional support across campus.
These services are free and available to currently enrolled TTC students. When needs extend beyond the scope of our services, staff will assist students with referrals to appropriate campuses or community resources, helping ensure students stay connected to support and continue moving forward on their pathway.
