What can I do in the TV, media post production fields?
These fields offer career opportunities as audio and lighting technicians, videographers,
studio production technicians and digital editors among others.
What characteristics and skills do I need to work in these fields?
Successful professionals in these fields must have good computer skills as virtually
all editing these days is done digitally. Technicians also must have manual dexterity
to set up production equipment and cables, which requires a steady hand and good hand-eye
coordination to perform many of the duties routinely required.
Where can I work?
Professionals in these fields most often work indoors in production and editing facilities.
However, a great deal of work today is done outdoors at remote locations. Technicians
typically work full time, with occasional overtime needed to meet deadlines for live
events. For those working in the electronic media industry, evening, weekend and holiday
work is common as most stations are on the air 24 hours a day.
