Federal Work-Study (FWS) provides eligible students with part-time employment while they attend college. Students may work in on-campus or approved off-campus positions.

How Federal Work-Study Works

A Federal Work-Study award is the maximum amount you may earn through the program. You are paid for the hours you actually work. FWS is not a grant or loan. Your FWS award is not money that is automatically applied to your student account. Your FWS earnings are paid to you through TTC's normal payroll process. FWS earnings are not counted as income when your Student Aid Index (SAI) is calculated on the FAFSA. FWS earnings can help you pay educational and living expenses and may reduce the amount you need to borrow.

On-Campus and Off-Campus Opportunities

TTC offers both on-campus and approved off-campus Federal Work-Study opportunities. Off-campus community service positions allow you to gain work experience while serving the tricounty community.

  • On-campus positions generally pay $16–$17 per hour.
  • Off-campus community service positions pay $19 per hour.

FWS positions may offer:

Important Information: FWS jobs, work hours and available positions vary. Your FWS award sets the maximum amount you may earn. The amount you earn depends on the hours you work. You will be paid for the hours you work. You cannot be paid for hours you do not work. Students generally may not work during scheduled class times.
