Financial Aid Verification
What is Verification?
Verification is a process used to confirm information reported on the FAFSA. The U.S. Department of Education may select your FAFSA for verification. Trident Technical College may also require verification if we identify information that appears to be incorrect, incomplete or conflicting. TTC has the authority to select and verify a student when the FAFSA contains incorrect or conflicting information. [34 CFR 668.54(a)(3); 34 CFR 668.16(f)]. If you are selected, you must provide the information and documents requested by TTC to complete your verification requirements.
Selected for Verification?
Don't worry. Being selected for verification does not mean you did anything wrong. If you are selected for verification, TTC will email you with instructions on what you need to provide. Check Financial Aid Self-Service through my.tridenttech.edu and select Required Documents to see exactly what you need to submit.
The documents you need will depend on the information being verified. You may be asked to provide:
- Verification forms or worksheets
- Information about household or family size
- Income or tax information
- Identity documentation
- Other documents needed to resolve conflicting or incomplete information
If additional information or corrections are needed after you submit your documents, TTC will notify you and update your required documents. Only submit the documents listed in your Financial Aid Self-Service account or requested by the Financial Aid office.
What Happens After I Submit My Documents?
TTC reviews the documents you submit and compares the information with your FAFSA. If corrections are needed, TTC may update your FAFSA information as required. Your Student Aid Index (SAI) and financial aid eligibility may change. Your aid may increase, decrease or stay the same. If your financial aid changes, TTC will notify you through your my.tridenttech.edu email.
How Long Does Verification Take?
Processing time varies depending on the documents required and whether additional information or corrections are needed. Submit all requested documents as soon as possible. Check your my.tridenttech.edu email and Financial Aid Self-Service regularly for updates or additional requirements.
Verification Deadlines
You are responsible for submitting all required verification documents by the deadline established by TTC or the U.S. Department of Education, as applicable. TTC may establish an earlier deadline to allow enough time to review documents and make any required corrections. For the 2026–2027 academic year, verification documents must be received by TTC no later than 120 days after the student's last date of enrollment for the 2026–2027 academic year or September 18, 2027, whichever is earlier. Students selected for Verification Tracking Groups V4 and V5 are subject to additional federal identity-verification requirements. TTC has internal deadlines to ensure timely processing. The last day to submit verification materials to the Financial Aid office may be earlier than the federal deadline. Failure to complete verification by the applicable deadline may affect your eligibility for federal financial aid. Please do not wait until the deadline to submit your documents.
