NUMBER: 12-1-11 APPROVED DATE: 03-10-2025

BASED ON POLICY NUMBER AND TITLE: 12-1-0 PUBLIC SAFETY

PURPOSE: To establish an institutional procedure should any government official present, request, or demand access to any person or information on campus.

PROCEDURE:

1)  Be professional and courteous at all times to the government official.  Inform the government official that Public Safety is being called to respond, and that Public Safety and Trident Technical College's General Counsel are to be contacted and are required to review any documents presented by the government official before any information is provided or entry into any private or limited space on campus is granted.

2)  Ask the Agent to stand by or remain in a public space while you contact Public Safety.  A public space on Trident Technical College would be any place where the public is free to enter without use of a keycard, keys, or is not typically monitored.  Examples of public spaces would be outside a locked building, a lobby open to the public during business hours, the parking lot, an open hallway or any open space on campus not restricted for access.  Examples of private or limited space on campus would be classrooms, laboratories, administrative or office spaces, or portions of buildings that are typically locked or not otherwise open to the general public.

3)  Upon arrival of Public Safety, cooperate fully with any instructions given to you by Public Safety.

4)  Public Safety is required to obtain a copy of any document presented by the government official and inform Trident Technical College's General Counsel regarding the presence and request of the government official.

5)  Do not take any steps to intentionally mislead or otherwise thwart the stated purpose of the government official.  Public Safety and Trident Technical College's General Counsel will evaluate the documents presented by the government official and Trident Technical College's resulting obligations under all applicable laws.
