April 22, 2026 – Ten students in Trident Technical College’s Electrical Line Worker certificate program displayed their skills and knowledge recently at the Spring Showcase held on Thornley Campus in North Charleston on Thursday, April 9.

Attendees from local utilities, including Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Sumter Utilities, Dominion Energy, IBEW 776, Palmetto Electric Cooperative, Ferreira Power, Lee Electrical, Utility Service Agency and Atlantic Power Constructors, spent the afternoon observing students’ skills with climbing techniques, maintenance and repair, pole-top rescue, and other on-the-job actions necessary for electrical line workers.

“The showcase is valuable to both our students and industry partners. It gives the students a chance to demonstrate their skills and progress to family, friends and potential employers, while also providing utilities with a first-hand look at the talent and training coming out of the program,” said Henry Owens, Electrical Line Worker program coordinator. “In many cases, it serves as part of the hiring process. Students are evaluated in real time, and a number of them receive job offers or move forward in interviews as a direct result of their performance.”

Trident Tech’s Electrical Line Worker – Third Class certificate program takes one semester to complete and prepares students to enter the electric utility industry as an apprentice with a broad understanding of the skills, knowledge, safe work practices and physical ability required to perform line work.
