Charleston , SC - Jan. 13, 2024 – Trident Technical College’s (TTC) 2025 Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award recipient is James Lewis, a Campus Generalist at TTC’s Palmer Campus.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award is given to a TTC faculty or staff member who exemplifies the ideals advocated by Martin Luther King, Jr.  James Lewis will be recognized and honored at the 34th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., which will be held at Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Drug Discover Building located on 70 President Street, Charleston, S.C. 29425.

The Black History Intercollegiate Consortium (BHIC) sponsors the 34th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance. Every year, the BHIC puts on this event in conjunction with five Charleston area colleges: Trident Technical College (TTC), Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), College of Charleston (CofC), The Citadel and Charleston Southern University (CSU). Last year, TTC hosted the event at the College Center on TTC’s Thornley Campus.

James Lewis is a proud native of Charleston and a professional with a wealth of experience in business and education. Lewis graduated from Morehouse College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and has ventured into various industries, including banking, financial markets, entertainment, martial arts, security and real estate. Currently, he serves as the Palmer Campus generalist at Trident Tech. Beyond his roles in advising and student registration, he takes pride in his humanitarian work with the grocery vault. Lewis and other grocery vault volunteers ensure that the TTC food pantry can distribute weekly meal orders to over 50 families, making a tangible impact in the community.

Additionally, Lewis participates in numerous outreach programs at Palmer Campus aimed at recruiting students in need of educational opportunities and developing community partnerships in Charleston. By visiting local establishments such as barbershops and churches, he meets individuals where they are, connecting them to Trident Tech’s transformative programs. Lewis continues to exemplify excellence in the community and service to others.
