The program prepares students to sit for the national certification examination for occupational therapy assistants. Successful completion of this examination entitles the individual to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Applicants will be admitted to this program on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis. Applicants are considered to be qualified for admission to the next available class when they meet all college and OTA program requirements. Qualified applicants will be notified via my.tridenttech.edu email indicating the year that they have been admitted. Classes begin Summer Semester of each year.

In addition to meeting the college's general admission requirements, including submission of official high school and college transcripts, APPLICANTS TO THE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT PROGRAM MUST COMPLETE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Complete the Health Sciences Application.
  2. Provide proof that all prerequisite courses (AHS 104, BIO 210, BIO 211, PSY 203, SPC [205 or 209], and the General Education courses) required in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program have been completed.
    1. These courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C.
    2. Achieve a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA in the two required science (BIO 210 and BIO 211) and math (MAT 120) courses.
  3. Laboratory science courses and AHS 104 Medical Vocabulary/Anatomy must have been taken within five years of acceptance into the program.
  4. After submitting the Health Sciences Application, the student will receive details in their Trident Tech email from the Health Sciences Admissions Coordinator regarding the OTA Information Session and quiz as well as the OTA Observation Video and quiz. Students must achieve a 100% score on each of the quizzes to verify the information was reviewed and understood.
  5. Submit a Statement of Completion form online. The link to the form can be found on the Health Sciences webpage.

 

General Admission Procedures for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program

  1. Students will be required to provide a completed, current Health Sciences – Student Health Record including all immunizations and titers, TB (PPD) tests, as well as current Healthcare Provider CPR certification, major medical insurance and medical professional liability coverage.
  2. Students will be notified by my.tridenttech.edu email the date and time of the mandatory program orientation. Failure to attend will result in forfeiture of seat in the program.


Note: Falsification of any information submitted will make a student ineligible for admission to or continuation in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.


Course Progression

To progress to the next Occupational Therapy Assistant term/semester, the student must complete all Occupational Therapy Assistant courses with a grade of C or better. The student must earn a grade of satisfactory on the final professional development evaluation each semester of the program.

Note: Students are responsible for transportation, meals and housing expenses during field work.
