Associate in Applied Science in Respiratory Care

Respiratory care is a health sciences specialty that focuses on the treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system.

TTC’s Respiratory Care program prepares students for employment as advanced-level respiratory care practitioners. The Respiratory Care program is housed on Thornley Campus.

The program prepares students to sit for the National Board for Respiratory Care's registry examinations. Upon successful completion of these exams, graduates are designated as Registered Respiratory Therapists.

Applicants will be admitted to this program on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis. Applicants are considered to be qualified for admission to the next available class when they meet all college and program requirements. Qualified applicants will be notified via my.tridenttech.edu email indicating the year that they have been admitted. Classes in this program begin Summer Semester.

In addition to meeting the college's general admission requirements, including submission of official high school and college transcripts, APPLICANTS TO THE RESPIRATORY CARE PROGRAM MUST COMPLETE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING  REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Complete the Health Sciences Application through the TTC Portal.
  2. Complete the following courses with a minimum grade of C.
    1. MAT 102 Intermediate Algebra or higher (or achieve a qualifying equivalent math placement)
    2. BIO 210 Anatomy and Physiology I. This course must have been taken within five years of acceptance into the program.
  3. Achieve a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA at the time of acceptance and at date of entry into the program based on classes taken within five years of acceptance into the program.
  4. Complete the Information Session on the TTC Respiratory Care webpage and achieve a 100% score on the online quiz following the session to verify the information was reviewed and understood.
  5. Submit the Statement of Completion form online. The link to the form can be found
    on the Health Sciences webpage.

General Admission Procedures for the Respiratory Care Program
  1. Students will be required to provide a completed, current Health Sciences – Student Health Record including all immunizations and titers, TB (PPD) tests, as well as current Healthcare Provider CPR certification, major medical insurance and medical professional liability coverage.
  2. Students will be notified by my.tridenttech.edu email the date and time of the mandatory program orientation. Failure to attend will result in forfeiture of seat in the program.

 

Note: Falsification of any information submitted will make a student ineligible for admission to or continuation in the Respiratory Care program.

Course  Progression

To progress to the next Respiratory Care term/semester, students must do the following:
  1. Earn a C or better in all courses required for the program.
  2. Earn a satisfactory grade of S on all professional development evaluations.
