Learn Motorcycle Safety Foundation proven techniques and vehicle maintenance tips from TTC to stay safe on the road.

You love the freedom that comes from riding your motorcycle on the open road but accidents can happen anytime. This course, whether you’re a first time learner, in for a refresher or seeking a license endorsement, teaches life-saving techniques on how to handle your bike to ride safely and prevent accidents. You may even qualify for a discount on your motorcycle insurance once you’ve completed this course.

Current license waiver requirements are that the student passes the Basic Rider Course and earns the MSF card and endorsement. Students are required to have a Motorcycle Learner's Permit in hand at the start of the class if they want to opt for the waiver.

Essential information for motorcycle courses:

Student riders are required to bring the following riding gear items to class: above the ankle shoes, long pants, long-sleeve jacket or shirt, full-fingered gloves, eye protection (which can be normal glasses) and a full face coverage DOT-approved motorcycle helmet. If you do not have your own helmet, we may be able to provide one for your use.

Motorcycle Basic Rider (BRC)

This course is intended for the novice rider interested in properly learning the fundamental skills to safely operate a motorcycle. Riders who are returning from an extended absence from motorcycling are also encouraged to attend this course. The course meets S.C. law for allowing the motorcyclist to qualify for an insurance discount; please contact your insurance company to verify your eligibility. Students must complete an online e-course (included in the course fee) and, later in the class, a riding assessment to receive the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) card. After you register, a separate email is sent to you within seven days of the class start containing the link and a personal code to enter. Once you have completed the e-course, print a hard copy of the completion certificate and present it to the rider coaches teaching the classroom portion of your class on Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. Practical application riding is on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; class riding time may vary due to weather conditions and level of enrollment. Training bikes and helmets are provided. However, riders with some experience may bring their street legal, registered and insured personal bikes for use in the course. A current S.C. state-issued driver’s license is not required to take this class. However, for those seeking a motorcycle license endorsement road test waiver, you must currently possess a valid S.C. state-issued driver’s license and/or motorcycle learner’s permit. Successful completion of the MSF course and evaluation qualifies you for a road test waiver to receive your motorcycle license endorsement. Prerequisite: Motorcycle Basic Rider (BRC) enrollees must be eligible to apply for a driver’s license if they do not currently hold one and must be able to ride a bicycle. Book and online course fee included
