Communication Skills to De-escalate, Control and Disarm

This course is designed for law enforcement and other first responder professionals to identify barriers that can create confusion/unrest in any communication event. Such topics as using creative and effective word choice; developing strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills; communicating with tact to calm and control a situation; listening actively, unthreateningly and effectively; asking good questions and understanding the communication dynamics of our multigenerational society are strategies learned. Executive Protection Specialist NEW!

This class is a basic prerequisite for those who have ever thought or dreamed of entering the fast growing field of executive protection. The executive protection specialist (EPS), also known as close personal protection, refers to security measures taken to ensure the safety of VIPs or other individuals who may be exposed to elevated personal risk because of their employment, celebrity status, wealth, associations or geographical location. This 20-hour block of instruction consists of: the mindset of the EPS, the security team, general precepts of EP, glossary of protective terms, organization of teams; protective details, recognizing threats and potential attackers, concentric rings of security, security perimeters, attack on principle and agents reactions, chauffer responsibilities and guidelines, terrorist operations, explosive device recognition, sniper detection procedure, motorcade formations, agents duties, vehicle procedures, motorcade operations and arrivals and departures.

S.C. Constable Basic Training Certification

This course covers policy and procedures, laws of arrest, search and seizures, crisis intervention, evidence, officer survival, handling prisoners, constitutional law, juvenile procedures/child abuse, police community relations, police communications, civil liabilities, ethics, and firearms. Also included are defensive tactics and weapons retention training. Prerequisites: Must have authorization letter from SLED Regulatory Services to register. Students must make a 70 or above on the final exam and pass the firearms training/range qualifications. Public trust, public safety and accountability by law enforcement agencies demand that commissioned state constables be of good character/reputation and have no significant criminal record or unsuitable background. Students must have completed required forms upon enrollment. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate. Candidates must first request an application packet from SLED (803-896-7015). Upon submission of the application packet and approval by SLED; the candidate may enroll in our course. Participants need to provide their own handgun in one of the following calibers: 9mm, .40, .357 semiautomatic, or .45. S.C. Constable In-Service Training

Constables must take this course each year to renew their constable commission. It consists of three hours of legal update, two hours of civil liability, and four hours of firearms training and qualification. Constables must score 75 percent or above on the written examination and qualify with their choice of weapons. Book included

SLED Safeguard S.C. Certification and Recertification

SLED Safeguard SC Classroom Instructor Training (40 Hours): All participants must be currently registered with SLED as a security officer with a licensed security company to attend this training.
