Wish you were old enough to go to college? Maybe you are!

Explore TTC's Kids' College classes that are offered on weekends during the school year as well as weeklong weekday spring break camps and summer camps. Classes are grouped by age-levels and are available to youth aged 7-11. You might even figure out what you want to study when you get a little older by trying out some fun classes now and you're sure to make some new friends along the way.


 

Computer Technology

Code Crashers - Beginner (Ages 7-11): Are you a beginner coder and want to learn more? Learn the basics of coding languages like JavaScript, CSS, HTML and Python to become a code crasher.

 

Gamestar Mechanic (Ages 7-17): Design your own video game while using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to create visuals and storylines in both collaborative and competitive, socially interactive environments. Grow 21st century STEM skills through a fun, entertainment-focused outlet. 

 

Minecraft (Ages 7-11): Learn how to build a functioning community within Minecraft and explore special techniques to excel at the game. Hone your creative invention skills while building 2-D and 3-D landscapes, architectural structures and art designs.

Creative Arts

Spectacular Soap Making (Ages 10-17): Join Denise Mungin of ‘GIN Soap Company to learn the art and craft of making homemade, natural artisan soaps. Make your own delicious-smelling bar of soap to take home! Materials provided 

 

Sweetgrass Creations (Ages 7-17): Learn the history and art of weaving beautiful sweetgrass creations unique to the Gullah people of the Lowcountry from Vera Manigault, innovator of Colorful Baskets™. Make your own sweetgrass basket, ornament or key to take home. Materials provided

Culinary, Baking and Pastry

Caribbean Holiday: Taught in Spanish and English! (for Kids and Adults): Learn how to cook a full holiday meal of Caribbean rice and beans (moro), puerco asado (roasted pork), ensalada rusa (Russian salad) and a sweet dessert of cortadito de leche (milk fudge), avocado, and a cafecito (coffee). Registration includes one adult and one child or one single adult can register. Non-Spanish speaking participants can register, too! Our instructors speak both English and Spanish and recipes are given in both languages.

 

Cooking around the World: China (Ages 10-17): Skip the takeout and cook up some fresh Chinese cuisine. Check out the tips and Chinese recipes you need for a delicious meal. Learn about China while making some great, delicious food. Who needs takeout?

 

Cooking on the Range: Cowboy Fare! (Ages 7-17): Round up those kitchen utensils and strap on an apron because this list of delicious western-style recipes can’t be missed. Cook up a Texas-style pico de gallo, main dish of Cowpoke Chicken and Sixshooter Bark for dessert.

 

Geode Cake Wonders (Ages 9-17): Learn how to create the beautiful and popular geode cake designed to look like the beautiful crystal rock formations found in nature. Carve and ice your cake, add edible crystals, colors, and metallic accents to finish the look. Take home a unique geologic cake of your very own design.

 

Gingerbread Houses (for Kids and Adults): Adults and kids alike enjoy creating spectacular gingerbread homes in the Culinary Institute of Charleston Bake Shop kitchens. For an additional $20, participants can also enjoy taking home a special Holiday Cookie Kit that includes six homemade Gingerbread cookies (four gingerbread figurines, a Christmas tree and a snowman), an icing piping bag and assorted candies to decorate at home. Registration includes one adult and one child or one single adult can register.

 

Hip Hop Easter Bunny Cake (Ages 7-17): Come bake up cute-as-a-bunny treats to kick off Spring. Learn to use frosting, candy and fondant to showcase your hippity-hoppity creativity and take home cupcakes and mini cakes for the whole family.

 

Indian Laddoos and Chevdo (Ages 7-17): Experience the traditional culinary delights of Indian holiday celebrations. Explore laddoos which are sweet, cookie-like, nutritious snacks as well as chevdo - sweet, savory and tangy granola. Chef Payal Shah serves as your culinary guide.

 

Magical Sweets and Treats (Ages 7-17): Create desserts that would win the approval of everyone’s favorite teenaged wizard. From Harry’s favorite Treacle Tart to Better than Hagrid’s Rock Cakes, make a variety of sweets featured in the wonderful world of J.K. Rowling.

 

One-Day Culinary Bootcamp (Ages 8-17): Practice basic chef skills by making soup and a salad dressing, cooking a gourmet macaroni and cheese pasta and sautéing vegetables. Master knife skills and learn sanitation procedures and proper food handling processes.

 

One-Day Pastry Bootcamp (Ages 9-17): Learn techniques used in professional pastry kitchens including making the perfect tart dough; the secret to a silky, smooth chocolate ganache; the difference between stovetop and baked custards; and what is “pâte à choux?”

 

Sweet and Savory Empanadas (for Kids and Adults): Experience cooking empanadas, a classic Caribbean comfort food that can be stuffed with any combination of sweet or savory ingredients for any occasion. At the end of class, stay for an authentic Dominican flan made by our instructor Juana Galvan. Note: Registration includes one adult and one child – or one single adult can register. Both Spanish and English languages are used in classroom instruction.

 

Take Me Out to the Ballgame (Ages 7-17): Show your friends and family you can pull off a grand slam with ballpark foods such as homemade cracker jacks, pretzels, corndogs and homerun strawberries!

 

Valentine Sweeties (Ages 7-17): We've got plenty of sweet Valentine's projects to keep small hands happy. So grab an apron and put Cupid to work. Make mini cakes with icing, candy and fondant for someone special in your life!

Health and Fitness

Yoga Kids Series (Ages 2-12): Yoga concepts taught in the way that kids learn best - through play! Each workshop includes a fun craft. Children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult. Note: Registration is good for one adult and one child. SAVE! Register for the entire series and get a $25 discount.

  • All about Emotions: Identify emotions and contemplate how we experience them in our bodies and our minds. Learn breathing and relaxation techniques to help manage big emotions and handle them in a healthy way.
  • Balance in Bodies and Lives: Practice balance poses and learn how having a balanced diet and mind leads to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Mindfulness: Focus on mindfulness in relation to our bodies, actions, thoughts and words to act with purpose and intention. Learn how our actions affect ourselves, peers, community and environment.
  • Stress Management: Focus on breathing exercises, relaxation exercises, sensory input management, and dealing with triggers and stressful environments.
  • Yoga Makes Me Strong: Learn about yoga poses that give strength and flexibility. Discover which parts of anatomy enable movement and strength in sports, playtime and day-to-day activities.

Build It! (Ages 7-11): From bridges to airplanes and electronic gadgets – you build it! Explore flight, evaluate bridges, test out engineering concepts, and build a final product from your own imagination.

 

Junior CSI Investigator (Ages 9-11): Learn about forensic science and finding and using physical evidence to solve crimes. Camp includes labs and hands-on activities as well as a resource notebook and steps for making your own detective kit.

 

LEGOs in Motion (Ages 7-11): Build different models demonstrating physical science and technology concepts including powered forces and motion, simple machines and more. Learn teamwork and prepare for engineering and problem-solving challenges.

 

PLAYtek with littleBits and MaKey MaKey (Ages 9-11): Join us for an interactive, hands-on experience as we invent and build using littleBits, MaKey Makey and LEGOs. This is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) powered learning at its best.

Nature and Outdoors

Plant a Pizza Garden (Ages 7-17): Create a garden container filled with all of the fresh, healthy herbs needed to make a delicious pizza. Learn how to care for your mini herb garden until it is ready for harvest. Take home simple recipes for different pizzas that utilize the herbs you have started. Materials provided

 

Spring Fairy Gardens (Ages 7-17): Design and create a charming springtime fairy garden. Paint and decorate the fairy house, plant a garden around it, add landscape features and more. Note: Registration includes one adult and one child. Materials are provided; You are welcome to bring your own special decorations for the garden, too.

Spring Break Camps

Amazing Artist (Ages 7-11): Have a blast working with various art media and use techniques to create your own original works of art. Learn about art techniques from all over the world by exploring painting, the fundamentals of sketching and optical illusion art.

 

Build It! (Ages 7-11): From bridges to airplanes and electronic gadgets – you build it! Explore flight, evaluate bridges, test out engineering concepts, and build a final product from your own imagination.

 

Dance Life (Ages 7-11): Learn basic elements of dance and design principles of choreography. Practice movement techniques and discover how to sequence it all together to create and perform your own dance piece.

 

Discovering Digital Photography (Ages 7-11): Learn how to take photos and use basic editing software. Transform your photos with amazing possibilities including black and white, sepia, spot color and more. A camera is required, preferably one with creative options and flash.
