Kids' College and Teen University Spring Break Camps

Week long spring break camps available for youth ages 7-17

Trident Technical College Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development is launching a new series of camps to keep youth ages 7-17 engaged during spring break.  Expanding upon its popular Kids’ College (Ages 7-11) and Teen University (Ages 12-17) summer camps series, the spring break camps are scheduled from April 10-14, 2017 in college prep, math and science, computer technology, creative arts and leadership skills. Most camps run for a five-day period, meeting three-and-a-half hours each day (8:30 a.m.-noon or 1-4:30 p.m.) and cost from $119 to $199 per camp. Camps meet at Trident Technical College’s Main Campus in North Charleston.

COLLEGE PREP (Teen University)

SAT/ACT Prep: Math (Ages 13-17)

Learn cool strategies that work and ease your test stress by practicing math skills in numbers and operations; algebra and functions; geometry and measurement; and data analysis, statistics and probability. Book included.

SAT/ACT Prep: Reading and Writing (Ages 13-17)

Trying to raise reading scores or improve on essay writing for the SAT or ACT? This camp can help. Every student receives individual responses, suggestions and instruction on essays written during the camp. Book included.

Learn the basics of designing your own video game using Gamestar Mechanic. Game design builds systems thinking and 21st century skills while encouraging creative problem solving.

Jumping into Minecraft – Beginner (Ages 7-11)

This camp explores the techniques used to excel in the Minecraft game and hones your creative skills. We focus primarily on how to create and build a functioning community within this educational game.

Minecraft Art – Intermediate (Ages 7-11)

Find your inner artist in this creative camp which uses the Minecraft software to explore building techniques and creative 2-D and 3-D landscape art creations in Minecraft’s creative mode.

Art and Soul Charleston Improv Theater Camp (Ages 8-11)

Enjoy a week of fun theater games, skits and improvisation including a touch of fun Shakespeare for youth. Campers also create their own show and perform it on Friday.

Comic Book Character Drawing and Animation (Ages 7-11)

Multimedia artist and instructor Phillip Hyman teaches you the basics to get you started on your first sketch and a basic comic book character. Work on your character’s features and gain confidence by developing light and shadows. Learn how to draw old-style cartoon animation and move into anime characters. Bring your characters to life by making a flipbook animation!

Tell a Story (Ages 9-11)

Celebrate creative writing as we imagine, develop and perform stories. Join the adventure into fun, fantasy, figurative language, imaginary field trips, fractured fairy tales, fables and more as you learn to tell stories.

Enjoy a week of fun and challenging improvisation games, skits and more. This is your chance to be a part of the entire works of Shakespeare in a one-hour skit. Campers perform their own crazy show on Friday.

This camp is designed to speak to our daughters and sons, reminding them of the importance of being brave, confident and focused as they discover tools that empower them. Primary focus is on daily activities and discussion of such topics as quality attributes, character building, positive attitude, positive body image and having a vision for the future.

Safe Sitter® (Ages 12-16)

Do you enjoy being with younger children? Do you want to babysit? Then maybe it’s time for Safe Sitter®. During this camp, you learn babysitting as a business; child care essentials; sitter safety; injury management; preventing problem behavior; care of choking infant or child; First Aid; and infant and child CPR.

Build It! (Ages 7-11)

From bridges to airplanes and electronic gadgets, you basically build it this week. Explore the history of flight and evaluate different styles of bridges and other engineering concepts. Every day is packed with adventure and creativity!

LEGOs in Motion (Ages 7-8)

Build many different models demonstrating physical science and technology concepts, including various powered forces and motion, simple machines and more. Campers build a variety of projects such as a car, golf cart, Ford Model A, semi-truck and trailer, snow plow and Zamboni.

PLAYtek Camp with littleBits and MaKey MaKey (Ages 9-11)

Join us for an interactive hands-on experience using 21st century technologies, creativity and ingenuity as we invent and build using LittleBits, MaKey MaKey and LEGOs as well as a few surprises. This is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) powered learning at its best. Participants showcase their inventions at the conclusion of the program.
