Certified Cost Projection Specialist

Certified cost projection specialists assist attorneys and insurance companies with preparing the necessary documentation required during the settlement process for personal injury and worker's compensation claims. Cost projection specialists learn how to create cost projection reports confidently and thoroughly to provide adequate funds to accommodate clients with future medical needs.

Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

Learn the principles and guidelines for assigning the appropriate medical codes to diagnostic conditions and medical procedures as a certified professional coder. Medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and HIPAA guidelines also are included. The program prepares students for a career working as a certified coder in an outpatient medical office. Certification: Certified Professional Coder exam through American Academy of Professional Coders; Books not included (approximately $610)

Coding for Health Care Professionals (CHCP)

This online coding for health care professionals (nurses, health care administrators, paramedics and others) program allows participants to add to their skillsets and move into coding careers. The coding field is growing faster than average due to mandatory electronic health records, health information management changes and the Affordable Healthcare Act. Certification: Certified Coding Associate exam through American Health Information Management Association and Certified Professional Coder exam through American Academy of Professional Coders

Coding Specialist (CS)

The coding specialist reviews and analyzes health records to identify diagnoses and procedures for billing insurance and Medicare. The coding specialist is responsible for translating diagnostic and procedural information used by health care providers into coded form for medical reimbursement purposes. The greater the expertise of the coder the greater reimbursement to a health care facility. Certification: Certified Coding Associate exam through American Health Information Management Association and Certified Professional Coder exam through American Academy of Professional Coders

Medical Office Specialist (MOS)

The medical office specialist may answer telephones, greet patients, update and file patient medical records, fill out insurance forms, handle correspondence and schedule appointments. The MOS works in physician offices, hospitals and nursing homes. Certification: Certified Medical Administrative Specialist exam through American Medical Technologists; Note: Student must present current SC SLED background report to enroll. Visit www.sled.sc.gov. Students also are required to have internet access outside of the college as training includes online course work. Externship included
