Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

Learn the principles and guidelines for assigning the appropriate medical codes to diagnostic conditions and medical procedures as a certified professional coder. Medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and HIPAA guidelines are also included. The program prepares students for a career working as a certified coder in an outpatient medical office. Certification: After successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) national certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Books are not included (approximately $610).

Clinical Documentation Improvement Professional (CDIP)

Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) professionals audit medical records and make the connections between clinical coders and health care providers for quality improvement in clinical documentation. Health care documentation is a legal document and validates the patient care provided, claims processing, coding, billing and reimbursement and quality reviews. CDI professionals work to improve health care record documentation to ensure improved patient outcomes, data quality, accurate reporting and proper reimbursement. CDI professionals audit medical records and identify the clinical indicators common to medical conditions such as those listed in the Major Diagnostic Category (MDC) and Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG). Certification: After successful completion of this program students are eligible to sit for the Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) national certification exam through the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) or the Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Coding for Health Care Professionals (CHCP)

This online coding for health care professionals (nurses, health care administrators, paramedics and others) program allows participants to add to their skill set and move into a coding career. The coding field is growing faster than average due to mandatory electronic health records, health information management changes and the new Affordable Healthcare Act. Certification: This program provides the training needed to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) Certification Exam through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the national Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Exam through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

Coding Specialist (CS)

TTC has the only AHIMA-approved online coding program in South Carolina. The coding specialist reviews and analyzes health records to identify diagnoses and procedures for billing insurance and Medicare. The coding specialist is responsible for translating diagnostic and procedural information used by health care providers into coded form for medical reimbursement purposes. The greater the expertise of the coder the greater reimbursement to a health care facility. This online coding specialist curriculum is approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Certification: Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) Exam through AHIMA and gain the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential through AAPC.

Medical Office Specialist (MOS)

The medical office specialist may answer telephones, greet patients, update and file patient medical records, fill out insurance forms, handle correspondence and schedule appointments. The MOS works in physician offices, hospitals, nursing homes, insurance companies and medical manufacturers. This blended course requires all students to have Internet access outside of the college as training includes online course work every week to be conducted outside the hours spent in the classroom. Certification: Students who successfully complete the classroom training program are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAS) National Certification given by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). Program will be offered in July and January.
