BLS Healthcare Provider

This eight-hour American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Course teaches the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device; a bag-mask device and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). Dementia Care

As baby boomers age, the 21st century workforce is challenged to care for an exponentially growing population of persons with dementia. This online course provides essential knowledge and understanding about neurological diseases that affect cognition and memory, and practical application of effective skills for supporting persons with dementia. Nearly all disciplines benefit from expertise in Dementia Care Specialists, as do families of persons with dementia.

Learn fast and fun terms, responses and questions you need to be more effective in the health care field. Whether you are a nurse, CNA, medical scribe, receptionist or occupy any medical services position, you quickly learn these Spanish language tips while participating in a high-energy and enjoyable class setting.

IV Catheter Insertion

Learn the correct technique of peripheral IV catheter insertion. Topics include, but are not limited to, vein location and IV placement, equipment and supplies, insertion, anchoring techniques and connecting to IV tubing. Students perform lab skills on IV therapy mannequin arms. To successfully complete the course, students must demonstrate knowledge and competency in IV insertion skills using proper safety and infection control techniques. Pharmacy Technician

This program provides instruction in how to assist the pharmacist in the packing and distribution of medication. Graduates can find employment in hospitals (private and government), nursing care facilities, private and chain drug stores, drug manufacturers, wholesale drug houses and health maintenance organizations. Students also study the professional and technical skills necessary for direct employment as a pharmacy technician. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of this program. Students who have successfully met all educational and institutional requirements for a Certificate in Pharmacy Technician at Trident Technical College are eligible to have their names submitted to the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) to be considered as a candidate to sit for the Certified Pharmacy Technician examination (CPhT) and to have their names submitted to the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation, South Carolina Board of Pharmacy to register as a Pharmacy Technician.

Reiki Healing

Learn the ancient healing art of Usui Reiki, a gentle and complementary energy modality. Classes incorporate a combination of lecture, discussion, demonstration and hands-on practice. Topics include treatments, origin and history of Reiki, the Reiki ideals and Usui hand positions. Instructor is Patricia Newman, Certified Usui Reiki Master Teacher and Certified Karuna Reiki Master. TTC is the only state-approved CEU provider of these courses. Look for additional classes in the fall. Books not included

Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)

Sterile processing technicians clean, disinfect and sterilize surgical instruments in hospitals and outpatient surgery centers. SPTs also order, inventory and test equipment for reuse. This health care employee is fundamentally important to hospitals and surgery centers to ensure the success of medical surgeries. Topics covered in this three-month program include: medical terminology, anatomy, infection control, safety, as well as HIPAA and OSHA guidelines. This program prepares successful students to take a national certification exam for employment as a certified sterile processing and distribution technician (CSPDT). An externship follows the end of this program. Minimum wage is $11/hour. US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports projected growth is 20 percent from 2012-2022. Note: Student must present current SC SLED background report to enroll; visit www.sled.sc.gov.
