Floral Design Certificate

TTC’s Floral Design courses are for those who wish to work as a floral designer or who simply want to nurture their creative life.

With an emphasis on practical, hands-on training, this four-course program helps students understand how to work with flowers, the fundamentals of design and how design methods are applied in a variety of floral styles and arrangement formats. Courses can be taken individually or as part of the certificate track.

To earn a certificate, students are required to complete: Floral Design I (this is a prerequisite for all other required courses), Floral Design II, Wedding Design and Funeral Design.

Create a beautiful holiday-themed centerpiece for your dining room table along with creative accent pieces to decorate your home for Christmas. Materials not included

Floral Design: Floral Design I

Learn the fundamentals of floral design including line, space, texture, form, color, composition, scale and balance. For those who wish to enter the industry or simply nurture their creative side, this class helps you recognize common flower varieties, create everyday arrangements, and understand how to handle and care for fresh flowers. Book included; Cost of materials (flowers and flower cutter) is approximately $225, to be paid at time of registration. (This is in addition to the registration fee.) Floral Design: Floral Design II

Get extensive hands-on experience designing a large variety of arrangements. Course content includes current styles of design such as high style, line, form and pavé. Permanents and accessories are also introduced. Prerequisite: Floral Design I.  Book included; Materials not included

Floral Design: Funeral Design

This is a specialty course for those interested in improving their design skills with funeral floristry. Topics include creating casket, easel and basket arrangements and the history, current trends and terminology of sympathy arrangements. Prerequisite: Floral Design I; Cost of materials (flowers) is approximately $140, to be paid at time of registration. (This is in addition to the registration fee.) Registration deadline is one week prior to each class. Location: OK Florist, Summerville

Floral Design: Wedding Design

Get hands-on practice creating the bouquets, personal flowers, arrangements and decorations associated with weddings and other special events. Also discuss the history, current trends and terminology of wedding floral design. Location: OK Florist, Summerville; Course materials fee ($270) is not included in the registration fee but is required to be paid at time of registration and includes all flowers and materials used in the class.

Interior Design Certificate

Appropriate for career-minded individuals, as well as home enthusiasts, this six-course program prepares students to function as a commercial or residential interior designer. Learn how to incorporate various design elements to create rooms that are functional, safe and beautiful. Gain experience using industry techniques and tools. Hear from working professionals how to land that first job or start a new business.

Courses can be taken individually or as part of the certificate track. To earn a certificate, students are required to complete: Interior Design I (this is a prerequisite for all other required courses); Materials Presentation; Window Treatments; Interior Design II; Drafting I; and Interior Design III. Optional courses: AutoCAD for Interior Design and various workshops are offered throughout the year.

Interior Design: AutoCAD for Interior Design

This course helps students learn basic AutoCAD skills while learning to draft residential type floor plans and elevations in Autodesk AutoCAD software. Learn how to draw walls, windows and doors in plan view and elevation and basic AutoCAD commands based on hand drafting skills developed in Drafting I. Each student is required to draft a room at the end of the course by themselves. Prerequisites: Drafting I and Interior Design I.

Learn to create room and furniture plans. Topics include reading blueprints, using an architect’s scale, and drafting floor plans and elevations by hand. Prerequisite: Interior Design I; Materials included

Interior Design: Interior Design II

Learn the basic rules of decorating. At the end of this course you will be able to look at a room and know what is missing or what is wrong that needs to be changed. The course includes design theory, principles and elements of design, color schemes, psychology of color and designing a room. Prerequisite: Interior Design I

Interior Design: Interior Design III

Learn to design the entire house. Topics include reading blueprints, working with particular furniture styles, mixing patterns and selecting complementary paint colors. Students also learn how to prepare for interviews in the design industry. Prerequisites: Drafting I, Materials Presentation and Window Treatments; Materials not included (approximately $100)

Interior Design: Materials Presentation

Develop a clear understanding of how materials should be displayed using the appropriate proportions, titles, keys and legends. Use hands-on techniques in building a material board for professional interior design presentations and learn to organize specification notebooks. Prerequisite: Interior Design I; Materials not included (approximately $75)

Learn basic window types and how to measure and price window treatments. Use different types of hardware and trim options to create unique window treatments. Visit two local businesses to get real-world examples of the latest in window treatments and have an opportunity to speak with local experts. Prerequisite: Interior Design I; Materials not included
