The Surgical Technology program prepares students to enter the workforce with skills required in surgical technology. Graduates of this program will be skilled in providing proficient care to individuals in the surgical arena.

In addition to meeting the college's general admission requirements, applicants must also submit official college transcripts and complete all of the following criteria:

 

  1. Complete the Health Sciences Application through the TTC portal. (When the number of applicants qualifying at the same time exceeds space available in the program, admission is prioritized according to the date and time that the Health Sciences Admissions Coordinator received the Health Science application)
  2. Complete BIO 210 Anatomy and Physiology I and AHS 104 Medical Vocabulary/Anatomy with a minimum grade of C. Potential students must complete both courses within the previous five years of the program acceptance date.
  3. Achieve a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA in the above-required prerequisite courses (BIO 210 and AHS 104).
  4. Complete an Information Session on the Surgical Technology program. Students can contact Richard Mohney at Richard.Mohney@tridenttech.edu or 843.574.6376 to arrange an advising session.
  5. Submit a Statement of Completion form on the Health Sciences webpage to HealthSciencesAdmissions@tridenttech.edu.

Other Requirements:

 

  1. Students must complete all SUR coursework with a minimum grade of “C”. Any unsuccessful attempt (grades of D, F, W) of a SUR course will result in dismissal from the program. A student will only have two attempts to complete the Surgical Technology program.
  2. Students admitted to the degree program are required to complete and pass a criminal background check and drug test before beginning clinical coursework.
  3. Students admitted to the program must submit documentation for each of the following:
    1. A physical exam
    2. 2-step PPD TB skin test or chest x-ray
    3. Positive Hepatitis B titer or declination statement
    4. Proof of current immunizations/titers, including COVID and flu
  4. Students admitted to the program will be required to maintain current Basic Life Support/CPR while enrolled in the program. In addition, there must be a practice component to the training with skill competency required.
