Original artwork by Laurie Meyer. See her work at http://www.lauriemeyer.com/. "The inspiration for "From Shrimper to Chef" came from several places - all of which have significance to me. The iconic shrimp boats on Shem Creek signify an important South Carolina industry and culture. I lived near this area for many years and was always intrigued by the crusty shrimpers who worked hard to provide us with shrimp. The time of day in the painting is my favorite - sunset. The colors of the creek are especially bold at this time of day, and since I am a colorist, I found this to be the best hour to capture the boats. I also wanted to paint a subject that connected with the culinary theme and the many chefs and chefs-to-be honored at this gala. Shrimp and Grits is a symbol of our coastal area and one of many shrimp dishes from our talented community of chefs. "From Shrimper to Chef" is an original oil on linen, 24x36 inches, and painted with bold color and brush work."
