Apply to UBMSC!

Thank you for your interest in the Upward Bound Math and Science Center (UBMSC).  To be eligible for this program, you must be enrolled in grades 9-11 at one of the following target high schools: Berkeley, Cross, or Timberland.  You must also be enrolled in a college prep curriculum, and have a strong desire for a college degree in a math or science related field of study.  Additionally, you must meet at least one of the following criteria: be a potential first generation college student (neither parent graduated from a four-year college or university) and/or meet minimum federal income guidelines.  If you meet these eligibility requirements, we encourage you to complete this application packet as soon as possible.

The information you provide will be the basis for student selection.  Therefore, the application packet must be completely and legibly filled out, and contain all necessary signatures.  A checklist has been provided to help you keep track of your progress.

Upon acceptance, students will be eligible for all UBMSC privileges, such as career and/or college advising, tutoring, workshops, and social and cultural enrichment activities.  Freshmen, sophomores and juniors receive 1/2 elective credit toward high school graduation, as well as opportunities to participate in research projects working as members of a team. Seniors get college credit for a Trident Technical College 104 course, as well as college credit for two Trident Technical College courses following their high school graduation.

UBMSC Academic Enrichment Workshops are held one Saturday per school quarter as part of the UBMSC Discovery Saturday Component.  The Discovery Summer Component runs for six weeks, usually from mid-June to the end of July.  Attendance is important, so be sure you can commit your time.  On four selected Saturdays and during the summer, your days will be filled with a mixture of academic, social and cultural activities, and personal and career development.  Our aim is to help prepare you for college so you can obtain a degree in a math or science related field.

All UBMSC activities are free to our participants and include transportation, appropriate meals and stipends.

We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning!
