The following resources are available in Trident Technical College’s Library System to assist in the course CRJ 246.

Articles

To access online articles found in magazine and journals use the following suggested online databases:

SIRS
This database provides access to the full text of numerous magazine & newspaper articles, law enforcement & government reports & bulletins, etc.   With daily updates, this database will provide you with the current written information on numerous topics.   Examples of keyword search terms:  Criminal profiling, pedophilia, etc.

Infotrac OneFile
This database provides access to numerous full-text articles, book reviews, newspaper articles, brochures, pamphlets, etc.  With daily updates, this database will be good for current news items on various topics.  Examples of keyword or subject searches include Psychological profiling, sexual asphyxia, etc.

To access articles click the online databases link from the library’s homepage. (NOTE: A TTC ID card is needed to access the databases from off campus).

Online Newspapers

The following links provide newspapers on the local, state, national, and international level.  If a particular crime, incident, etc happens in a certain geographic area, the newspaper servicing that area will probably have more coverage.  (i.e. The 2002 sniper case in the Washington DC area was covered nationally, however the DC area papers probably had even more in-depth, human interest stories.)

http://www.charleston.net/ -  The Post Courier Online.  This site will have the current day’s paper.  Archives are not updated daily.  Use Infotrac if current updates needed.
http://www.headlinespot.com
- Includes papers from various countries.  LL means the paper is online in the local language of where it is published.
http://library.uncg.edu/news/ Provided by UNC-Greensboro, local newspapers from various states are available online.
http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/index.htm online newspapers by state/country.

Books

Titles on various topics can be found by using the library’s Online Catalog.  Different titles are found at the three campuses.  Any title found in the catalog can be sent to any of the three TTC libraries, whichever is most convenient.  These titles are books in hardcopy/print format.  Numerous titles are also available through TTC’s electronic library, netLibrary.  NetLibrary is listed under the online databases listing of the library. The entire book can then be read online.  Titles of interest in the area of Criminal Justice. Cults, Crime, etc. can be located using different subject/keywords in both the online catalog and netLibrary.
