Library Assistance for Distance Learners / Off Campus Access

Off-campus Access

Databases listed on the LRC’s Online Database page are accessible from any computer with Internet access by using the 13-digit barcode at the bottom of your TTC ID.  The barcode must be activated each term.  You can activate the barcode by having your ID scanned at one of the TTC libraries or by calling or e-mailing the library. To activate an existing barcode for TTC library use, call or e-mail the library using the “Contact Us” link at the top of the library homepage.  You will need to provide your name, student ID number, mailing address and telephone number for verification.

Note:  If you are a distance learner or online student who has not been on-campus to obtain an official TTC ID, you can still access the library from off-campus. To obtain a barcode for TTC library use only, e-mail the library using the “Contact Us” link at the top of the library homepage.  In the e-mail, state your name, student ID number, mailing address and telephone number.  Within approximately 48-hours (excluding weekends) you should receive your activated barcode number by return e-mail.

Once your barcode has been activated, click the “Off-campus Access” link or click on any of the databases.  You will then be asked to enter your 13-digit barcode to gain access. (Note that you should not include the A’s when asked for the barcode number).

TROUBLE SHOOTING -  If you have done all of the above and Still have problems,it may be the setup of the computer you are using.  See our tutorial on Accepting Cookies On Your Computer.

Locating Books

  • Use the link on the home page, Library Catalog to find books that can be checked out.  For tips on using the Library Catalog view our YouTube video “Using TTC’s Online Library Catalog”.
  • Use the Online Database link to access electronic books in NetLibrary.  This allows you access to full text books online from any computer with internet access.
  • If you need a book from another library, use the Interlibrary Loan Form to submit the request.
  • To search library collections in the local Charleston Area use the Other Libraries link.  For tips on borrowing from local libraries view our You Tube video “Getting Resources from other Charleston Area Libraries”.

Finding Journal, Magazine and Newspaper Articles

  • We subscribe to many full-text online databases.  For information on how to search the databases for articles use the Tutorials link.
  • Online database searching tip:  When searching limit your results to FULL TEXT.  If you do not find what you need, redo your search without the FULL TEXT limit. Then submit an Interlibrary Loan form to request the article.

 Online Reference Material
  • For General Reference resources use the CredoReference database or Gale Virtual Reference Center database.
