Welcome to Developmental Studies English and English as a Second Language
Developmental Studies English is a computer-mediated, self-paced course that prepares students for entry into their designated programs of study. Instructors in DS English are available to provide individual assistance to students and are committed to helping students attain success in English.
Non-native speakers of English who need to develop or improve their listening, speaking, reading, or writing skills may enroll in one or more of nine ESL (English as a Second Language) courses. These courses offer classes and supplementary lab experiences that focus on grammar, pronunciation, writing, vocabulary development, reading skills and communication. Not every course is offered every semester, so an ESL student will meet with an ESL advisor to map out a schedule to meet his or her needs. The goal of all of the ESL classes is to prepare students who speak English as a second or other language to enroll in programs of study at the college.
If you are interested in taking ESL classes, contact Laurann Wespy, TTC's ESL advisor, at 843.574.6319 or Laurann.Wespy@tridenttech.edu to set up an appointment. You may not take the ESL COMPASS placement test or register for ESL classes without first meeting with Ms. Wespy. If you would like to inquire about TTC's ESL program or ask questions about individual courses, contact Judy Covington, the Department Head for Developmental Studies English, ESL, and IDS 101, at 843.574.6042 or Judy.Covington@tridenttech.edu.
