Trident Technical College Loan Certification Policy
Automatic awarding of loans.
Students with a total loan debt of $18,000 or less will be automatically processed for student loans if requested via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and provided they meet all other criteria for receiving a student loan.
Dependent students will be awarded up to an annual amount of $3500 in subsidized and/or unsubsidized Stafford loans as an academic freshman (less than 31 hours earned) and $4500 as an academic sophomore (more than 30 hours earned.) Independent students will be awarded up to $4000 in an additional unsubsidized loan. This additional loan amount will be determined by several factors to include current loan debt, cost of attendance and other aid eligibility.
Requesting additional loans.
Students whose current loan debt exceeds the $18,000 limit, and those who wish to receive additional loans, must submit an on-line student loan request form. A financial aid officer will review the request and award the loan as requested, adjust your request based on your eligibility, or deny the request. You will be notified via email that your request has been processed and the determined action.
The financial aid officer may refuse to certify the requested loan amount, or any amount, due to loan awards falling under the purview of "professional judgment". You may refer to "The Student Guide" page 19 for further explanation of limits on borrowing.
If your loan request is denied, you have the option to submit an on-line request at Student Loan Review Request. The Financial Aid Loan Review Committee will review your request. You will be notified via email of the committee’s decision, which is final.
Maximum loan debt.
The maximum allowable loan debt will be $23,000 in subsidized Stafford and unsubsidized Stafford loans, and requests for additional student loans will be denied unless approved by the Financial Aid Loan Review Committee.
