The Open Lab format for Developmental Studies courses on the Berkeley Campus allows students the flexibility to take Developmental Courses at a time that is convenient for them.
Orientation Sessions
Students must attend two designated orientations sessions at the beginning of the semester for each course they enroll in. Course objectives, procedures, and software resources will be explained. A diagnostic test will be given during these orientation sessions to determine individual strenghts and needs.

Course Requirements
Students must complete all course requirements designated in the syllabus. Students enrolled in Flexible Schedule Courses must sign a contract with their instructor and can expect to attend a total of 45 semester hours in the lab setting for each course they enroll in.

Students will focus on strenghtening targeted academic skills based on their diagnostic evaluation, and will move through remedial coursework using the textbook, software and lessons taught by the instructor.

Small groups are arranged for students with similar needs.

Individual tutoring sessions are offered.

Students must complete all coursework that is requred by the syllabus and take the final exam at the end of the semeter.

Students can qualify for early exit as outlined in the appropriate course syllabus.
