Doing simple home repairs yourself can save money and prevent time off from work to monitor repair professionals. Completing simple projects yourself, at times convenient to you, gives you a sense of pride and personal accomplishment. Learn which projects you can safely tackle and which ones you should leave for the professionals. Also learn to describe the repairs you need accurately so you can quickly negotiate with repair professionals.

Limited Home Repair (Especially for Women) NEW!

This 24-hour course equips an inexperienced homeowner with the basic survival skills needed to decide when to perform serious decorating, upgrades or limited repair projects themselves and when to call in the professional. This confidence-building course is ideal for women who are new homeowners or anyone living independently for the first time. Learning the skills needed to make those minor and annoying repairs yourself can save you money. Safety is heavily stressed throughout the course, beginning with a selection of personal protective equipment and quality basic hand and power tools for the new homeowner. Practice using power tools under instructor guidance. From the extensive home mockups in our training lab, explore what is behind the walls of your home. Learn wallpapering and painting techniques and how to perform limited maintenance or repairs on some of the following systems: HVAC, electrical and plumbing. Repair projects might include door bell circuits, lamp repair, switch and receptacle replacement, light fixture or ceiling fan installation, lockset replacement, leaky faucet repair, replacement of toilet tank components, clearing a garbage disposal jam, caulking, minor drywall repair, and simple tile repairs. Course content may vary to accommodate interests in each class. This course is taught by a female instructor with considerable residential maintenance experience. In just 16 hours, this course introduces you to the convenience and savings of do-it-yourself, basic home repair and when to call in the professionals.
