Completing simple projects yourself, at times convenient to you, gives you a sense of pride and personal accomplishment. Learn which projects you can safely tackle and which ones you should leave for the professionals. Also learn to describe the repairs you need accurately so you can quickly negotiate with repair professionals.

Home Repair 101 - The Basics

In just 16 hours, this course introduces you to the convenience and savings of do-it-yourself, basic home repair. You also learn when you need to call in the professionals. This confidence-building course is ideal if you are inexperienced, a new homeowner or living independently for the first time. The course begins with the wise selection and safe use of a recommended set of basic hand and selected power tools and personal protective equipment. It continues with individual student practice using selected power tools under instructor guidance. The importance of working safely in the home and on its structural, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems is stressed. Explore what really is behind the walls of your home. Learn how to do limited maintenance or repairs on the HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, including door bell circuits, lamp repair, switch and receptacle replacement, light fixture installation, lockset replacement, faucet repair, replacement of toilet tank components, garbage disposal installation, caulking, minor drywall repair, and simple tile repairs. A hardcover, color-illustrated home repair book is included.
