Morning Keynote Address

Out on a Limb
Nikki shares her own story of perseverance and courage. A native of Kentucky, she eloped at 17 with her high school boyfriend. Twelve years later, divorced with three children and unskilled at almost everything, she started college at the age of 29. She earned a B.A. in literature from American University in 1976 and attended graduate school at the University of Virginia on a Governor’s Fellowship. She never completed her master’s degree, however, because she spent most of the year crying and watching Kojak reruns. She started her first real full-time job a year later when she was hired as a secretary at Reston Publishing Company, a subsidiary of Prentice-Hall. In 1985, she moved to Charleston, which she had never seen and barely heard of. She spent the next several years nursing a midlife crisis while she eked out a living by cleaning houses, working in a bed and breakfast, clerking in a liquor store that had a psychotic parrot and no heat or air conditioning, and writing descriptions of mythical Irish pubs and taverns for a local mail-order company.

Nikki Hardin is the founder and editor of Skirt! Magazine, a monthly print publication and Web site for women. She started Skirt! in1994 with not much more than $400 and the desire to have something interesting to read. She sold the magazine to Morris Communications, a privately held media company, in 2003 and since then, Skirt! has expanded to include 12 cities with eight scheduled to be added in the first quarter of 2008.

Afternoon Keynote Address

HABITUDE
The greatest waste is wasted potential. HABITUDE is a nine-step peak performance training program designed to help professionals maximize potential. HABITUDE is a lifestyle. In order to have a lifestyle and corporate culture of effectiveness you must first “style your life” so you and your organization are properly positioned for success. This program teaches a revolutionary, systematic approach to business development, advancing goals, communication effectiveness, leadership, diversity and interpersonal connectivity.

As one of the nation’s leading experts on the art of maximizing human potential, former Miss America Finalist and Entertainment Attorney Marshawn Evans is founder of MEU (Marshawn Evans Unlimited), a corporate life-enrichment consulting firm focusing on peak performance, diversity, workforce readiness, and leadership strategies. She is also majority owner and president of EDGE 3M Sports and Entertainment. A graduate of Georgetown Law, Marshawn practiced with one of Atlanta’s most prestigious law firms, and has been featured by Glamour Magazine, USA Today, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, ABC, Fox News, and NBC’s The Apprentice with Donald Trump.
