To earn a Certificate of Interior Design, you must complete the following courses. Please note the order and prerequisites listed. It will take approximately 18 months to complete the certificate. Because of the outside projects that must be completed, it is not recommended to take Interior Design II and Materials Presentation at the same time. 
  • Interior Design I
  • Interior Design II 
  • Drafting, Materials Presentation and Window Treatments:  Prerequisite for these courses is Interior Design I.
  • Interior Design III:  All courses listed above must be taken before you enroll in this course.
  • Internship Program:  Interior Design I and II, Drafting, Materials Presentation and Window Treatments must be taken before you enroll. (Internship is optional.)

Remember to register early because the courses are popular and class sizes are limited!

    Getting into the Business

    If you are thinking of starting your own interior design business, this is the course for you. It provides information about state and federal paperwork that you will need to file, as well as how to run a business on a daily basis. Learn how to write contracts, deal with difficult people and find resources to get you started. Books not included

    Interior Design I

    Learn the basic rules for color, wallpapering, furniture arranging, accessorizing and lighting. Also learn what to look for in selecting quality flooring, wood furniture, upholstery and fabrics. Books not included

    Interior Design II

    This course covers design theory, working with color schemes, psychology of color and good planning for designing a room or entire house. Apply what you learn in a course project. Prerequisite: Interior Design I. Books not included

    Interior Design III

    This course helps you design an entire house. Learn to read blueprints, work with particular furniture styles, mix patterns and select proper paint colors. Learn to prepare for an interview for a position in interior design. Prerequisites: Interior Design I and II, Window Treatments and Materials Presentation.  Books not included.

    Working with Color

    Experiment with color and learn why some colors advance and some recede and how certain colors affect you psychologically. You will select paint colors to go with fabrics and learn to see the undertones in colors. If you have never been good with color, this course will enhance your skills in selecting colors for different projects.
