Professional Small-Engine Mechanic Certification
This 60-hour program meets the needs of small-engine repair shops and facilities. The topics include tool usage, troubleshooting, disassembling the small engine, identifying all parts of the engine and making appropriate repairs. Diagnosing and troubleshooting transmissions for the riding lawnmower within established specifications for both the four-stroke and two-cycle engine are also covered. Certificate is awarded upon program completion. You must furnish some hand tools; the list is available from the Continuing Education Bookroom.

Professional Small-Engine Mechanic Certification consists of the following four courses:

Course 1 - Basic Small-Engine Repair

This course introduces the proper tools and their usage for small-engine repair. Learn safety procedures for disassembly of small engines and the basics of troubleshooting.
Course 2 - Troubleshooting and Repairing

Learn in-depth repair and troubleshooting of the small engine, including carburetor repair and adjustments, and ignition and exhaust systems for both the two- and four-stroke engines.
Course 3 - Lawn and Garden Tractor Repair

This course covers the repair and maintenance of lawn and small garden tractors. Topics include changing drive and blade belts, wheel bearings, steering mechanisms and drive trains.
Course 4 - Advanced Troubleshooting

Topics include advanced troubleshooting, changing ignition systems, charging systems and drive trains.
