Wish you were old enough to go to college? Maybe you are!

Explore TTC's Kids' College classes that are offered on weekends during the school year as well as weeklong weekday spring break camps and summer camps. Classes are grouped by age-levels and are available to youth aged 7-11. You might even figure out what you want to study when you get a little older by trying out some fun classes now and you're sure to make some new friends along the way.

Computer Technology

Gamestar Mechanic – Beginner (Ages 8-11): Learn the basics of designing your own video game using Gamestar Mechanic. Game design builds systems thinking and 21st century skills while encouraging creative problem solving.

 

Gamestar Mechanic – Intermediate (Ages 8-11): Take your video game design to the next level. Learn more advanced game design and critical thinking skills to solve problems, use art and aesthetics, and create storylines in your video games.

 

Jumping into Minecraft – Beginner (Ages 7-11): This camp explores the techniques used to excel in the Minecraft game and hones your creative skills. We focus primarily on how to create and build a functioning community within this educational game.

 

Minecraft Art – Intermediate (Ages 7-11): Find your inner artist in this creative camp which uses the Minecraft software to explore building techniques and creative 2-D and 3-D landscape art creations in Minecraft’s creative mode.

Creative Arts

Around the World with Dance (Ages 7-11): Travel around the world and learn about amazing dances originating in America as well as other countries including the tango, West African dances, ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, the chacha, salsa and swing.

 

Art and Soul Charleston Improv Theater Camp (Ages 8-11): Enjoy a week of fun theater games, skits and improvisation including a touch of fun Shakespeare for youth. Campers also create their own show and perform it on Friday.

 

Comic Book Character Drawing and Animation (Ages 7-11): Multimedia artist and instructor Phillip Hyman teaches you the basics to get you started on your first sketch and a basic comic book character. Work on your character’s features and gain confidence by developing light and shadows. Learn how to draw old-style cartoon animation and move into anime characters. Bring your characters to life by making a flipbook animation!

 

Improv Dance: Learning the Art of Choreography (Ages 7-11): Learn basic elements of dance and design principles of choreography. Play various dance games and participate in activities to learn dance concepts. Put them all together to create your own dances.

 

Tell a Story (Ages 9-11): Celebrate creative writing as we imagine, develop and perform stories. Join the adventure into fun, fantasy, figurative language, imaginary field trips, fractured fairy tales, fables and more as you learn to tell stories.

 

The Very Merry Players (Ages 8-13): Under the direction of Pamela Ward, this program is designed for students who wish to expand their knowledge of theater arts and performance. Material is selected to allow each student to excel. The mission for The Very Merry Players is to see each actor gain confidence, self-esteem and teamwork and to become life-long lovers of the arts!

Culinary, Baking and Pastry

Students participate in hands-on preparation and cooking of various dishes under the guidance of a trained chef. Each student receives a recipe booklet to take home.

 

Becoming a Cookie Monster (Ages 8-16): Take ordinary cookie dough and make it extraordinary, learning various decorating tips. Create cookie monsters such as Pokémon and Monsters U to name a few.

 

Cupcake Connection (Ages 8-16): Love to make and eat cupcakes? Want to learn how to make colorful cupcakes, decorate with fondant and improve your buttercream skills? Get creative in the pastry kitchen with cupcakes.

 

Gingerbread Houses (for Kids and Adults): Join us in celebrating the holiday season and decorate your very own homemade gingerbread house with an assortment of candies to include traditional gum drops and peppermints to modern-day treats. Create a winter wonderland by covering your house with powdered sugar snow. Adults and kids alike enjoy creating spectacular gingerbread homes in the Culinary Institute of Charleston kitchens and this year can also enjoy taking home a special Holiday Cookie Kit for $20 that includes six homemade Gingerbread cookies to include four gingerbread figurines, a Christmas tree and a snowman, an icing piping bag and assorted candies to decorate at home. Holiday snacks are served. Registration includes one adult and one child or one single adult can register. 

 

Grandma’s Secret Dessert Recipes (Ages 8-16): Re-create those special desserts like Grandma makes. From specialty pies to crisps, cobblers and cakes, impress grandma with all the delicious desserts you learn to make.

 

Hip Hop Easter Bunny Cake (Ages 8-16): Enjoy making a special carrot cake and hippity hoppity bunny cupcakes. Learn to use fondant decorations to decorate and enhance your buttercream skills.

 

Valentine’s Cake Connection (Ages 8-16): Enjoy making Valentine’s cupcakes and cakes with chocolate and other delectable flavors for your special someone. Learn to use fondant to decorate and improve your buttercream skills.

Math and Science

Build It! (Ages 7-11): From bridges to airplanes and electronic gadgets, you basically build it this week. Explore the history of flight and evaluate different styles of bridges and other engineering concepts. Every day is packed with adventure and creativity!

 

LEGOs in Motion (Ages 7-8): Build many different models demonstrating physical science and technology concepts, including various powered forces and motion, simple machines and more. Campers build a variety of projects such as a car, golf cart, Ford Model A, semi-truck and trailer, snow plow and Zamboni.

 

PLAYtek Camp with littleBits and MaKey MaKey (Ages 9-11): Join us for an interactive hands-on experience using 21st century technologies, creativity and ingenuity as we invent and build using LittleBits, MaKey MaKey and LEGOs as well as a few surprises. This is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) powered learning at its best. Participants showcase their inventions at the conclusion of the program.
