Student Responsiveness

Educational Value

10.1 Student questions being addressed in a clear, concise and timely manner

Quality Standards

10.1.1  When a student contacts an instructor with a question or some other type of inquiry, the response time will be minimal. Usually, response times should be within 24 hours during the work week. Response times can vary during the weekend period, and instructors will make a clear statement to students about when they will respond to weekend inquiries.

10.1.2  Policies regarding instructor-returned responses to student inquiries during various times of the day, work week, evening and weekend will be stated in the syllabus and/or addendum or D2L page and distributed in print format and/or in printable electronic format. Policies will clearly communicate when a student can minimally expect a response from an inquiry.

Educational Value

10.2 The patient and responsive interaction of the instructor with students

Quality Standards

10.2.1 The instructor’s role is to facilitate learning in the student. Learning occurs best when students are dealt with as adults. Adult-to-adult communication will enhance instructor's opportunities to advance the learning in students.

10.2.2 Instructors will focus on building their relationships with students when recurring and redundant questions are asked. If there is an ongoing issue with a student, instructors will deal with that student in a confidential and private manner.

10.2.3 Instructors will allow students the opportunity to publicly ask questions that may seem unimportant or embarrassing. Other students may have the same question but are too inhibited to ask.

Educational Value

10.3 Graded materials being returned promptly and with constructive feedback

Quality Standards

10.3.1 The time between when graded materials (i.e., tests, papers, etc.) are collected and the time they are returned for review is minimal. If this time exceeds two weeks, the instructor will communicate to the students about the delay.

10.3.2 Graded material will include (1) a graded value (i.e., points, letter grade, etc.), (2) constructive feedback, and (3) be linked to related content.

10.3.3 All instructor corrective comments will be stated clearly.
