The purpose of the Fund is to assist students enrolled in either an associate degree or diploma program who did not complete high school, but have earned a General Education Development (GED) certificate and wish to gain a college education in order to achieve personal, academic and professional goals.
Student Eligibility: Returning or continuing students are eligible to apply.
To qualify: Must have earned a General Education Development (GED) certificate instead of a high school diploma; must be a resident of Berkeley, Charleston or Dorchester counties; must be enrolled in at least six (6) hours in an associate degree or diploma program; must have completed at least six (6) hours (Developmental Studies and bridge courses may be counted) with a cumulative minimum grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
Award amount/use: Award of $1,800 ($600 each semester) for tuition, books, required course materials and equipment.
The scholarship is renewable for three years or until the award recipient completes the program of study. The recipient will continue to receive the award as long as the recipient continues to meet all eligibility criteria AND enrolls in all fall and spring semesters during the three year period or until program completion.
Essay Requirement: Applicants are required to provide a brief statement describing educational and professional goals and how the scholarship will help achieve those goals. Instructions for submitting the essay will be provided during the application process.
