Online & Mixed Mode Faculty: Technical Competencies for Teaching

The following technical competencies are necessary for teaching an online or mixed mode course. (Italicized items are optional.)

Information Technology Training Center
  • Perform basic functions of the Outlook mail system, such as generating, saving, and sending email messages, as well as adding and retrieving attachments.
  • Perform basic functions of the IP Cisco phone system, such as placing internal and external calls, retrieving, saving, and deleting voice mail messages.
  • Perform basic functions of the TTC Express system, such as printing and submitting final grades.
  • Generate, save, and revise an Excel file.
  • Generate data CD.
The following training may be obtained at the Information Technology Training Center. Please contact the ITTC Director for details.

Center for Teaching Support
  • Perform basic master classroom procedures, such as accessing and securing all equipment and implementing Internet use during class.
  • Implement best practices for online and mixed mode learning.
  • Perform basic functions of the Desire2Learn course management system, such as revising course content, using communication tools, and managing and facilitating online learning. (See Faculty Training Modules page for details.)
  • Assess course and revise or enhance when necessary.
