Daughters of the Dust, the first commercially successful film dealing with the Gullah culture. Wendy Barry, of Trident Technical College English Department, led a discussion of the film.
Maureen Eke, of Central Michigan University, presented a lecture entitled "African Continuities in American Literature and Culture. Following her lecture there was a panel discussion led by Dr. Eke focusing on the analyzing the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.
Kwame Dawes who presented a comparison and examination of attitudes towards dialect and its presence in popular culture and literature.
