While using WebCT, if you are unable to view discussion postings, quizzes, and download links, your pop-up blocker may be the problem.
Depending on the pop-up blocking software you are using, you may be able to set the WebCT server as an allowed site, or you may need to disable the pop-up blocker while using WebCT.
Pop-up blockers work in the background while you browse the internet. When they detect a pop-up window that may be an unwanted advertisement, they automatically close the window. This can prevent WebCT from performing properly.
Most pop-up blockers have a clearly marked icon added to the browser toolbar. Click the icon to get the disable and enable options. If you are unable to locate the icon and you don't know how to disable the pop-up blockers, visit the WebCT tune-up page. Scroll to the section, "To disable pop-up blockers for WebCT."
Spyware / Parasites
A forbidden or not authorized error message usually occurs when you have spyware or browser helper objects (BHOs) installed on your computer.
Spyware gathers information about a person or organization without their knowledge. Spyware can get in a computer as a software virus or as the result of installing a new program. Spyware is often installed without the user's consent, as a drive-by download, or as the result of clicking some option in a deceptive pop-up window.
Make sure you do not have any parasite software on your computer. For more information and to check for parasites, visit the Doxdesk website.
If you have browser helper objects (BHOs) installed and are using Internet Explorer, they will cause difficulties with WebCT. For a free program that lets you monitor and disable BHOs visit Definitive Solutions.
If you cannot uninstall the BHOs, try using Netscape as your browser. The browser tune-up will show you which versions of Netscape are compatible with WebCT. For more information on BHOs, visit SpywareInfo.
