| SBTCE POLICY 8-2-105 COMPENSATION FOR TEMPORARY (ADJUNCT) FACULTY |
Trident Technical College compensates adjunct faculty based on established criteria and the number of contact hours specified on the "Temporary Employment Agreement" form. This form is signed by the employee and the budget administrator (Dean, Department Head, or Program Manager). No contract is considered binding until all required signatures have been obtained.
Compensation Range
Employment agreements compensate adjunct faculty at a rate between $12 and $25 per contact hour.
Compensation Criteria
Within the established compensation ranges, the following criteria are used to determine the rate of adjunct pay:
- Academic credentials
- Professional licensing or credentials
- Relevant professional experience
- Market availability
- Number, type, time and location of sections to be staffed
Compensation Determination and Approval
The appropriate Dean/Department Head/ Program Manger based on the criteria cited above determines pay rates within the specified range. If the pay rate has been determined by the Department Head/Program Manager, the Dean subsequently reviews the compensation rate and, if approved, initials the "Temporary Employment Agreement" form. In some cases, it may be necessary to compensate at rates outside the range. Rates outside the ranges require approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs or appropriate vice president.
Certificate of Completion
At the conclusion of the contract period, the budget administrator signs the "Temporary Employment Agreement" form to certify that the instructor has fulfilled all contractual obligations; the form is then forwarded to the Human Resources office, where it is retained in the employee's file.
