All employees in full-time equivalent positions of Trident Technical College (hereafter referred to as “employees”) will observe holidays specified in the planning calendar, which is published by Academic Affairs, as noted below.
College Closed Holidays
1. New Year’s Day: January 1
2. Independence Day: July 4
3-4. Thanksgiving: Fourth Thursday and Friday in November
5-6. Christmas: December 25 and 26
College Closed to Public Holidays
On the following holidays, when the College is closed to the public, employees may work.
7. Martin Luther King’s Birthday *: Third Monday in January
8. Confederate Memorial Day*: May 10
9. Memorial Day*: Last Monday in May
10. Labor Day*: First Monday in September

Holidays designated for use during the Winter Break
11. Veterans’ Day
12. Presidents’ Day
Holidays falling on Saturday will be observed the preceding Friday. Holidays falling on Sunday will be observed the following Monday.
Classified Employees
Employees required to work on New Year’s Day, Independence Day, the Thanksgiving holidays, Christmas Day, or the day after Christmas, will be given compensatory time to use within one year from the date of the holiday.
*Employees who worked on Martin Luther King’s Birthday, Confederate Memorial Day, Memorial Day, and/or Labor Day will use those days during Winter break. This is designed to give the employee flexibility.
All non-exempt employees shall be compensated for all holiday compensatory time upon separation from employment. Exempt employees shall not be paid for unused holiday compensatory time upon separation of employment.
For classified employees, the state-authorized holidays, which are taken during the college’s Winter break, include Christmas Day, the day after Christmas, Presidents’ Day, Veterans’ Day, New Year’s Day, and Christmas Eve if designated by the Governor.
The Governor is empowered to declare Christmas Eve of each year a holiday for State employees. If the Governor declares Christmas Eve a holiday in a year that the Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the holiday shall be observed on the preceding Friday. If Christmas Eve is declared a holiday, the eligible staff are granted an additional holiday. Faculty, based on a decision by the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education (SBTCE) President’s Council, are not granted an additional day.
Faculty Teaching Only Fall and Spring
Faculty earn ten (10) holidays, ten days of vacation (Faculty non-work days: TTC procedure 8-13-8), and from two (2) to five (5) personal leave days (the number of personal leave days is dependent upon the length of continuous state service days). The ten-day winter break will include Christmas Day, the day after Christmas, Presidents’ Day, Veterans’ Day, New Year's Day, and five vacation days. Confederate Memorial Day and the remaining five (5) vacation days will be used during May break.
Faculty members will be paid for unused, prorated non-work days if employment is terminated during the academic year.
Faculty Teaching Fall, Spring, and Summer
Faculty earn twelve (12) holidays, thirteen (13) days of vacation (Faculty non-work days: TTC procedure 8-13-8), and from two (2) to five (5) personal leave days (the number of personal leave days is dependent upon the length of continuous state service days). The ten-day winter break will include Christmas Day, the day after Christmas, Presidents’ Day, Veterans’ Day, New Year's Day, and five (5) vacation days. Confederate Memorial Day and the remaining eight (8) vacation days will be used during May break. Faculty may use a pre-approved personal leave day for the remaining day of May break.

Faculty may work on one of the following holidays: Martin Luther King’s Birthday, Memorial Day, or Labor Day and use that day during the May break.
Faculty members will be paid for unused, prorated non-work days if employment is terminated during the academic year.
Note: Election Day (the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November) is a day when the college will be closed to the public (except for the polling area) but will be a regular workday for employees.
