| 14-1-0 LEARNING RESOURCES CENTERS - USE OF RESOURCES |
PURPOSE: To establish a process for retrieving delinquent Trident Technical College Learning Resources Centers materials, including, but not limited to, books, reserve and reference materials, and audiovisual or electronic software and equipment.
- OVERDUE NOTICES.
The Learning Resources Centers staff mail overdue notices beginning two weeks after the materials are due. Three notices are mailed, provided there is no response after each of the first two notices has been sent. The first notice is a courtesy notice requesting the return of the Learning Resources Centers materials. The second notice informs the patron that their records will be sealed. The third and last notice informs the patron that his/her records have been sealed until all Learning Resources Centers obligations are settled.
- FINES.
There is a fine for items not returned within the identified circulation period. Fines may vary in amount depending on the nature of the item. The daily rate applies only to those days that the Learning Resources Centers is open to serve the public. No fine will exceed the original cost of the item. Students who borrow materials from other colleges are subject to circulation and overdue policies of the lending college.
- LOST OR DAMAGED MATERIALS OR EQUIPMENT.
The Learning Resources Centers must be reimbursed for lost or damaged materials or equipment. If an item is lost, the student must pay the replacement cost of the item and a $5.00 processing fee. If the item is later found by the student after payment has been made, only the money for the cost of the item is returned to the student. If an item is damaged beyond repair, the student must pay the replacement cost of the item plus a processing fee. The personnel responsible for circulation of the item will determine the cost.
- FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS AND PENALTIES.
A student must pay all debts prior to the final day of registration for the next semester. For students with accounts that have not been paid in full, the staff of the Learning Resources Centers will seal their records using the TTC financial system. Students who return Learning Resources Centers materials but fail to pay the fines will have their records sealed if those fines are $5.00 or more. After a patron returns overdue Learning Resources Centers materials or equipment and pays for fines or lost materials, the Learning Resources Centers staff will clear the student's record in the TTC financial system and give the student a receipt.
- FACULTY/STAFF OBLIGATIONS.
Faculty and staff receive notices for overdue Learning Resources Centers materials. They are exempt from fines for items which are returned, but must pay for lost library materials. If necessary, payment for lost Learning Resources Centers materials will be withheld from the employee's pay check.
