Radiologic Technology is the technical science that deals with the use of x-rays or radioactive substances for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes in medicine. A Radiologic Technologist who specializes in the use of x-rays to create images is known as a Radiographer. A Radiographer performs a wide variety of diagnostic procedures, including examinations of the skeletal system, the chest and the abdomen. They also assist in more specialized procedures to visualize the gastrointestinal system, spinal cord and joints.
Radiographers in South Carolina must be certified by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA).
